I am yet to have a tree topper and I thought what is better than something that is home made and FUN! My answer is nothing! SO grab the family and get stuck in!
What you need:
Paper or Plastic Pint cup
Tissue Paper - cut into rough A6 sizes
PVA
Glue Gun or tough double sided
Polystyrene ball - mine was 22cm circumference
Paint - for the skin
Wire & yarn or pipe cleaners - for arms & halo
Glitter paper cut into a star
Goggle eyes - or you can draw them on
Sharpie
Any stickers/ glitter and tinsel/ ribbons for decoration
Top tips for sustainability:
A) I didn't have to buy anything for this make so have a good ol' route around the home
B) I used a old yoghurt pot for the body
C) If you don't have a polystyrene ball you can scrunch up newspaper
Attach the body:
Glue gun the polystyrene ball to the bottom of the cup, this will be the angels head. You want this to be full secured.
PVA the whole of the head and layer up the tissue paper, following it down onto the cup. This will bind the two together to make even securer, so don't be skimpy.
Set a side to dry off
Details!:
I didn't have any pipe cleaners but found this lush gold yarn, I measured the wire to be a good size above the 'head' and added extra so I can attach further down the 'neck'. On reflection it would have been easier to wrap the yarn round first before moulding into a circle. For the 'arms' a wrapped a little extra at one end to make 'hands'.
Measure out another length for the wand, be sure that you compare to the size of the total body, and it needs to be seen from the bottom of your tree!
Back to your body:
You can paint on the 'skin' onto the 'head' while the body is semi dry.
Leave overall several hours to dry throughly.
Once dry it is time to DECORATE the dress. Do how you fancy to fit your theme or personality, I added glitter paint onto the dress so they can be full of sparkle!
Making a character :
Using double sided stick wool onto the head for the hair, style and colour how you desire! Remember they do not need to be in the 'traditional' Christmas style. Push some small scissors through the body to be holes for the arms, making sure they are level-ish on each side.
Same at the back of the 'neck' for the halo, here I applied some of the glue gun glue to the back of the head to keep secure.

Glue gun on her eyes if your using gogglies! Add eyelashes & a mouth and they are born!
Now pop your new Art tree topper on their new home & now Christmas can be even better!
Craft shouldn't be an occasion it should be everyday.
